My name is Gaile Pierce-Drucker. I am a registered nurse, an environmentalist,
and an activist in animal rights. My
favorite music is the night song of the coyotes in the desert. I write children's
stories, enjoy outdoor photography, dabble
in art, and travel as much as possible. I like solitude and wilderness areas.
I have 2 children, Ceil and Jason, a dog named
Auggie, and a turtle named Frog. Only Auggie chooses to live with me,
I first came to the Big Bend in December of 1991, from South Carolina to visit
my daughter who was volunteering in the
Park. I arrived in the middle of the night and when I awoke the next morning
a bright red sky filled the window and I thought
this must be heaven. I quickly dressed and walked outside just as a group of
javelina crossed the road nearby. I took a deep
breath of the fresh air and realized that I was surrounded by prehistoric mountains
that looked like they were on fire in the
morning sunrise. Peace flowed through me as I looked out upon the most spectacular
sight I had ever seen, and I felt deep
down inside that I had finally come home. The following May I purchased land
in Terlingua looking out on those same
mountains, and it has become my home.
The idea for doing this table arose when I learned that there was an unpainted
table available for decorating; I cannot resist
an empty canvas! My deep love of the Big Bend, which includes every rock and
plant and every living creature (although
I do prefer that some of them not reside too close to my house) is my true inspiration
in all that I do. I tried to paint the Chisos
Mountains as I see them from my house and display a few photographs taken within
their range.
Peace & Joy, Gaile
